Build Your Website. It’s Easy with WordPress
WordPress has made it extremely easy for anyone to create a website. It’s so much simpler from the days using Microsoft FrontPage or Dreamweaver. Or (horror!) hard-coding a website using HTML.
Anyway, here’s a really short list on how you can start building a professional looking website to showcase your idea.
1. Buy a domain. Go to godaddy.com and get yourself a yourname.com for about £7.50 per year. There are always deals out there and if you really want to save on money, you can get a .info or a .biz for an even lower price.
2. Buy yourself a hosting account with One-Click Installer (make sure you can install WordPress with One-Click). This is the costlier bit in getting a website. If you are not prepared to get a hosting account, find a free hosting account online (this usually comes with adverts) or use a friend’s hosting account. If you use a free hosting account, you will very likely need to download a FTP client (I use Filezilla) to install WordPress.org (this is different from WordPress.com as it gives you design control) on your server.
3. Use the One-Click Installer to install WordPress on your server.
4. Install a kick-ass theme. Search on Google for WordPress Portfolio theme, select the theme that fits your needs best, install it and customise it to your liking.
5. Optimise using WordPress plugins.
That’s it. Once you become familiar with the above process, you can set up some really kick-ass websites without knowing any coding and put your idea to test. And the above won’t take a lot of time. A few hours would be enough for you to put your website up. Of course I cut out some of the really boring technical details but well, this post is just to demonstrate that it is really not that hard to set up a website. Search online for all the other details on how to join the dots to get it all to work
