Purpose of Blogging
I was at one of General Assembly London event last Thursday and Rob Fitzpatrick was there giving one of the talks to encourage startup founders to start blogging because it brings a lot of benefit to the founder. He ran a session to get people to start thinking about what to write in their blogs since writer’s block is one of the main problem (or excuse) given.
He started out by giving everyone small rectangular cards to fill out their ideas by answering the following questions:
- This blog is about helping _____ learn _____.
- What you should really know about _____?
- Books or people who have changed how your do business.
- Questions you have been asked.
- Biggest mistake you have done.
- What is the worst popular advice you have received?
- Companies and people you admire most.
By answering the above questions and giving each question about 2 minutes, you would easily generate blog ideas for the whole year. I think this is a very systematic way of thinking about blogging and gives a strong direction in a blog. I have been blogging for a long time at different blogs but never really found a purpose and stopped several times. This blog is supposed to document my journey as an entrepreneur but after this talk by Rob, I am now thinking how I can change the purpose or create a new blog about my industry using the methods outlined.
(P/S – Rob if you are reading this, you should post your slides up onto SlideShare!)
